Warm-up with Sonny’s top five winter activities at BIG4 West Beach Parks

Sonny the Starfish loves spending his winter breaks at BIG4 West Beach Parks, and you’ll be amazed by all of the fun things you can do to keep your warm, here are his top five favourite activities.

Hey there my ocean-loving-friends!

My name is Sonny, and I'm a six-armed starfish that lives in the Southern Ocean.

With so many limbs, I need to have lots of different activities on-hand to keep me busy on holidays, which is why I love spending my winter breaks at BIG4 West Beach Parks.

Even in winter, you’ll be amazed by all of the fun things you can do, here are just some of my favourites…

  1. Beach-side snuggles

First things first, let's talk about the beach. Even though it's winter, you can still have a blast on the sand! Just an easy walk to West Beach, you can head down the dunes for a long stroll with your friends, collect seashells and build sandcastles. If you're feeling adventurous, you can grab a surfboard and join Ted the Turtle and I as we catch some gnarly waves, just don't forget your wetsuit! Then after a day of exploring, you can warm up in your trackies, beanies and scarves, and snuggle up under a warm blanket to watch the sun go down over the ocean.

  1. Go fast on land!

For those who prefer fun on the ground, Go-Karting and cycling is also a ton of fun at BIG4 West Beach Parks. You can rent Go-Karts and bikes with your pals, ride along the scenic paths of the park, and make a pit stop at The West Beach Patisserie & Eatery for hot chocolate or cappuccino to warm up your chilly fins. For bikers or skaters, you can access the West Beach Coastal Path and ride up the coast to Glenelg for great shopping and Gelato.

  1. Golf for the little fins

Having six arms, I like to think I’m pretty good at mini-golf, but you don’t have to be a starfish or a grown-up to bring your A-game - mini golf is an activity the entire family can enjoy! BIG4 West Beach Parks has two courses, one outdoor and one indoor for rainy days, but they’re both full of twists and turns, and some crazy obstacles that only someone with tentacles would be silly enough to tackle. Plus, it's a great way to kick off a life-long love of the game for the next generation of golfing pros.

  1. Warm up with a swim

Yes, you heard me right, the BIG4 West Beach Parks pool is heated, so you can enjoy the water all year round - which is one of the main reasons I like to holiday here in the chillier months. You can splash with your friends all day long (while your parents enjoy a good book under a rug) before jumping out and warming up by the fire pits.

  1. Enjoy a Campfire

Did someone say fire pits? BIG4 West Beach Parks has them too! There's nothing quite like cozying up by a warm fire on a chilly winter evening…especially after a long swimming sesh. There's no better way to end your days of adventure by toasting marshmallows by the fire, while listening to the soothing sound of the waves crashing on the shore in the distance.

So, whether you like building sandcastles, racing Go-Karts or playing golf, you're sure to find something to keep you busy at BIG4 West Beach Parks this winter!
